Fun and Games

Seems like today was going to be just filled with them — fun and games, I mean.

I had been planning to cut down some large shrubberies, but with the snow… not so much.

And when Wifey suggested I go out and buy the Sunday Globe… no, those weren’t the two words.

So yeah, the Sunday paper, which we haven’t gotten in a long time because, well, they ain’t givin’ ‘em away. And the only thing I use it for is the crossword — which I completed, thank you very much! I did have four squares wrong, but that’s not too bad, is it? Some things I just don’t know, I guess.

And then there’s the Sudoku I’ve been working on for a few days. It’s a “very hard” puzzle because I think I’m so smart. Not the hardest, mind you, not yet. I finally finished it after 2 hours and 53 minutes! It was hard. I had to make one guess and then I got stuck and then I made another guess, which took me to a contradiction, so I was back at the first guess, and that one took me to the end. Hard, like I said.

In the mean time was the not-so-fun-and-games of my laptop dying. Here’s a good lesson. When the operating system is being upgraded, do *not* touch the system, not even a little. I was shutting things down — you know, make it easier for when the upgrade was done and it needed to reboot. Then the last thing I did was unmount this camera card. Bzzzzt, system error, you must reboot. And of course the upgrade was still in the middle. Sure enough, wouldn’t reboot, wouldn’t reboot. So to make a long story short, I’m still (five hours later?) copying everything off of the hard drive, which I was able to mount onto another system using FireWire, and also I have this FireWire hard drive lying around, so I’m copying everything onto that. With any luck, I’ll have it all fixed sometime tonight or tomorrow. And ::knock on wood:: I won’t end up losing any of my hard works, which would have sucked.

Oh, I almost forgot — the quiz answer. Wifey didn’t know what to make for dinner the other night. So when the words “Chinese food” popped out of her mouth, I was off like a shot to get the menu. I had to take her order before she changed her mind! So did anyone guess anything food related? Johnny, tell them what they’ve won! :)
